Sugar production in Brazil likely to increase

Sau Paulo: Considering the dip in the ethanol prices, sugar mills in Brazil are emphasising on the sugar production for the season 2020-21 (April-March). According to the reports, the mills are likely to produce 35.3 million tonne sugar, 18.5 per cent more than the previous year.

Coronavirus has impacted the ethanol sector in Brazil. Following which, now mills in the country diverted their attention towards sugar production. Following the sharp decline in the prices of crude oil, the ethanol producers in Brazil are mulling to reduce ethanol production and diverting more cane for sugar production. As per Conab, cane allocation for sugar in Brazil to grow from 34.9 per cent in 2019-20 to 42.4 per cent this season.
