53 sugar mills still operating in Uttar Pradesh; state heading towards record sugar production

Lucknow: Under the efficient leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath and with the guidance of Hon’ble Minister of Sugar Industry and Cane Development, Shri Suresh Rana, the Department of Cane Development is continuously performing its duties, despite the adverse circumstances during the countrywide corona pandemic, in the interest of sugarcane farmers and Supply of sugarcane standing in cane fields is being ensured to the sugar mills.

Giving detailed information in this regard, the Commissioner, Cane and Sugar, Shri Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy said that the Department of cane Development has prepared an effective action plan to run the Sugar mills even during the period of lockdown in the interest of sugarcane farmers. And during the lockdown, availability of necessary raw materials supplied from the other states was also ensured in coordination with the concerned authorities, so that the operations of the sugar mills could not be affected. As a result of this, the State succeeded in making a record Cane crushing and Sugar production and enabled the farmers for smooth supplies of their sugarcane to sugar mills.

Shri Bhoosreddy, also informed that till now 6.13 crore Ganna Purchie have been issued to 46.2 lakh sugarcane supplier farmers of the State in the current crushing season 2019-20, while last year only 5.5 crore Ganna purchie were issued even under normal circumstances. As a result of this the Sugar mills of the state have crushed 10,715.40 lakh quintals of cane by which 1216.8 lakh quintal of Sugar has been produced till now, while under normal conditions last year, only 10,118.77 lakh quintals of sugarcane had been crushed, and sugar production was 1163.69 lakh quintals till date. In the current crushing season, crushing work was started by a total of 119 sugar mills, and after completing the crushing by 66 mills, there are still 53 sugar mills when crushing operation are going on , while in the past year despite normal conditions only 30 sugar mills were in operation on date, and the crushing operations of 89 sugar mills had been closed at this time.

The area-wise data of cane crushing and sugar production is also as follows, which makes it clear that cane crushing and sugar production has been higher not only at the state level but also at all the regional levels, relative to last year, and it shows ease in the cane supply system to farmers Due to departmental policies and by regular reviewing at every level by the department, it is being ensured that the sugarcane farmers did not have to face any problem in the supply of sugarcane and that the sugar mills should closed only after crushing all the suppliable sugarcane.
