Kolhapur: Like sugar mills are demanding to increase the MSP, similarly, now sugarcane farmers also want the government to consider a hike in sugarcane FRP.
Dhanaji Chudmunge from Andolan Ankush Sangathan, an organisation fighting for rights of farmers said, “The sugar millers have demanded to increase sugar MSP from Rs 3100 to Rs 3500 per quintal. If the government accepts their demand then the market price of sugar will also rise. The government should also hike sugarcane FRP from Rs 2750 to Rs 3100 per tonne for a basic recovery rate of 10 per cent.”
He said, considering increase in the cost of sugarcane production and other factors, the state government should recommend Centre to hike sugarcane FRP.
