Dar Es Salaam: Tanzania government has warned strict action against those involved in creating artificial shortage of sugar by hoarding stocks which have resulted into a hike in domestic rates.
According to the local media reports, Japhet Hasunga, the Minister for Agriculture said, “We have received complaints from the public that sugar is being sold at high rates than the indicative prices fixed by the government. As the complaints have flooded we have decided to crack down against those that are violating the rules. We will start conducting raids on the shops in the cities and towns to find out if they have hoarded sugar or are selling sugar at high rates.”
“The government is serious about the issue and will take strict action against those found selling sugar at a high rate,” he further added.
