Bangkok: Thailand government has approved the financial aid of 10 billion baht ($319 million) to the sugarcane farmers who have faced losses due to the drought this year. This would relieve around 2 lakh farmers in the country who are facing financial scarcity.
The drought in the country led to the reduction in the sugar production by 40 per cent. This is one of the lowest sugar output in the decade.
Ratchada Thanadirek, deputy government spokesperson said, “Along with drought, the sugarcane farmers also incurred losses due to increased cost of sugar production per tonne. The financial aid would help them to recover their losses this year.”
