Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh: District Magistrate has warned the officers attached with the Bijnor and Chandpur sugar mills for clearing the cane arrears. According to the news report published in Amar Ujala, he has asked them to clear the pending cane arrears in one week.
District Magistrate Ramakant Pandey has taken a tough stand on the sugar mills that have failed to clear cane arrears and have started conducting meetings with the concerned officers to find out the reason behind the delay in clearing cane arrears.
The lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus pandemic has severely affected several sectors including sugar. The demand for sugar has been reduced. Mills are unable to sell the sugar amid lockdown, due to which sugar stocks are piling up in warehouses. And also they are unable to clear cane payment due to financial scarcity.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister on Friday said that a record cane price payment of more than Rs 1, 00,000 crores have been paid between 2017-2020 to the 47.20 lakh sugarcane farmers in the state.
