Rampur, Uttar Pradesh: Farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union met district sugarcane Officer and threatened to launch an agitation if the sugar mills fail to clear cane arrears. The sugarcane officer realising the gravity of the situation discussed the issue with sugar mill officials on phone and asked to expedite the cane payment.
Following which the Karimganj sugar mill cleared arrears around Rs 4.77 crore. Other mills assured to clear the cane dues soon.
District President Haseeb Ahmed said that farmers of Shahabad and Bilaspur came to the office on Thursday morning. He said that the sugar mills are not paying sugarcane dues. Farmers rushed to the district cane officer office and demanded to clear pending cane arrears. Following which cane officer asked the mills to pay the sugarcane arrears.
