Equity benchmark Sensex surged over 100 points in early trade on Thursday led by gains in index-heavyweight Infosys even as Asian peers traded with significant losses. At 09:56 IST, the Sensex was up 241.51 points at 36,293.32, and the Nifty was up 44.30 points at 10,662.50.
HCL Tech, TCS, Tech Mahindra and Sun Pharma were the other gainers. On the other hand, ITC, HDFC, Titan, PowerGrid, NTPC and Tata Steel were among the laggards.
Equity benchmark indices ended higher in the previous season. Sensex closed on July 15, 2020 at 18.75 points higher at 36,051.81. Nifty ended 10.85 points high at 10,618.20.
