New Delhi: Sugar industry in Maharashtra is facing the financial crisis and has urged the government to provide financial assistance. Today, former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis met Home Minister Amit Shah to demand a package for sugar industry. Fadnavis shared this information on his official twitter account.
In a tweet, Fadnavis said, “Met Hon Union Home Minister @AmitShah ji in New Delhi along with our leaders from Maharashtra to demand a package for sugar industry. We placed various demands like MSP, restructuring of loans, soft loan for sugar industry, on which Hon HM assured a positive consideration.”
Continuing the same tweet, he said, “We are also meeting Hon Union Ministers @nstomar ji and @irvpaswan ji to submit a detailed memorandum on issues pertaining to sugar industry and various other issues of farmers.”

A group of ministers, headed by Home Minister Amit Shah, on Wednesday recommended increasing the minimum selling price (MSP) of sugar by Rs 2 to 33 per kg to ensure mills clear the pending cane arrears of around Rs 20,000 crore at the earliest.
Despite financial distress and dip in sugar sell due to lockdown, sugar mills in Maharashtra are clearing the cane dues. Coronavirus has put sugar industry in the grim situation as sugar sales affected during the lockdown period.
