The Fiji government is working on its first-ever sugar industry policy that would help to address the problems of the sugar sector and resolve them.
According to the media report, the Ministry of Sugar Industry will come out with the policy soon. This will help the sugar sector to achieve its target of producing more than 3 million tonnes of cane in the next five years.
The policy will look into issues like changing weather patterns, declining youth participation, mill inefficiency, modern technology, farm mechanization, lack of collaboration and partnership between industries and the depleting soil health.
