Pakistan government taking steps to reduce sugar prices

Islamabad: Sugar prices are skyrocketing in Pakistan, therefore the government is taking steps to reduce it in the local market.

Shibli Faraz, Information Minister said in a press conference that the government is planning for a targeted subsidy to provide relief to the poor people.

He accused the last government of designing policies for the personal gain and for the elite class that has weakened the state institutions.
The government is taking steps to reduce the prices of sugar and other commodities including flour.

“The government will reduce the prices of essential goods at any cost. Government is working on sugar import. The objective of importing sugar is to improve supply to reduce prices. Both public and private sectors are importing sugar to reduce its prices in the market.” Faraz further added.
