Sao Paulo: Sugar production in Brazil is expected to increase by 32 per cent to 39.33 million tonnes in season 2020-21 (April-March). According to the government, millers are allocating more sugarcane towards sugar production rather than ethanol production.
Brazil’s Conab food supply agency said, “Sugar production this season will make Brazil world’s top sugar producer. In sugar season 2020-21, India is expected to produce 32.5 million tonnes of sugar.”
After coronavirus impacted the ethanol industry, sugar mills are diverting more cane towards sugar production. Due to which, sugar output increased massively in the country. Brazil comes second on a global tally of coronavirus cases after the United States.
