After CM’s warning, deputy commissioner calls for meeting with cane growers

Belagvi: After Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy set June 30 deadline to all sugar factories for clearing sugarcane arrears, deputy commissioner S B Bommanhalli has called for a meeting with sugarcane farmers at his office on Saturday, June 15. Now, all eyes are on the meeting, that what decisions would be taken.

On Thursday, CM instructed Deputy commissioners (DCs) of all sugar cane growing districts to hold talks with sugar mills and ensure that cane growers get their dues and if factories fail to pay then DCs will be held responsible for the same.

Kumaraswamy asked DCs to seize the sugar stocks or forfeit the mills if they fail to clear the cane dues.

On June 4, The Karnataka State Sugar Cane Growers Association had set a deadline to sugar factories in Karnataka to clear their dues within 15 days and also warned the government to face statewide agitation in case of non-payment.
