AGMitra Technologies to develop technology for sugarcane farmers

Chandigarh: Mohali-based startup AGMitra Technologies (P) Limited is working on creating solutions for the growth of sugarcane harvest, reports Tribune India.

The startup set up by two professors at Plaksha University is one among the four startups in the country that have received a product harvest development grant of Rs 20 lakh from the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), an autonomous society of the Ministry of Electronics and IT.
The startup was founded by Dr. Shashank Tamaskar, an associate professor, and Dr. Amruta R Behera, an assistant professor. The startup uses AI to develop precision agriculture technologies for the sugar industry and farmers.

Dr. Tamaskar said, “Factors like availability of sufficient fertilizers and adequate supply of water affect the sugarcane crop yield. We are using AI drone and satellite-based remote sensing and Internet of things (IoT) sensors to develop a decision-support system that helps farmers to predict the actual time for harvest, crop yield, and sucrose content.”

The four startups along with this one have been awarded Rs 20 lakh each for qualifying for the second stage of the Smart Farm Grant Challenge (SFGC) Programme.
