Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology (SVPU) has announced plans to develop new crop varieties that are resistant to weather impact, reported Live Hindustan.
Rs 50 lakh has been allocated for the research, which will focus on wheat and sugarcane, as well as other crops.
SVPU Vice Chancellor Dr. KK Singh said the university will focus on developing varieties that are resistant to drought, heat, and pests. The research will also take into account the needs of farmers in western Uttar Pradesh, where the university is located.
“We want to develop varieties that are not only weather-resilient but also profitable for farmers,” Singh said. “We are confident that our research will help farmers to adapt to the challenges of weather impact.”
The university’s research will be conducted by a team of scientists and faculty members. The team will use a variety of methods, including field experiments, laboratory studies, and modeling.
“We are committed to conducting high-quality research that will benefit farmers,” Singh said. “We believe that this research will help to ensure food security in India.”
