Coimbatore: O Panneerselvam (OPS), AIADMK leader has demanded that the state government should abide by the poll promise and fix sugarcane price at Rs 4,000 per tonne, reports The Times of India.
He said, “The state government’s support price of Rs 2,900 per tonne for sugarcane has disappointed farmers as they were hoping that the government would fulfill the poll promise.”
During our regime, when we had fixed the MSP for sugarcane at Rs 2,850 per tonne in 2016, Stalin had demanded to increase the MSP to Rs 3,500, OPS recalled.
“DMK then had threatened to launch an agitation demanding hike sugarcane price. The party in its poll manifesto had stated that the farmers would get Rs 4,000 per tonne if voted to power. However the party has failed to fulfil the poll promises,” he further added.
