Ambedkar Nagar: Akbarpur sugar mill paid cane arrears worth Rs 14 crore to as many as 12,000 sugarcane farmers. According to the mill administration, the dues of farmers whose cane was crushed till January 31 have been cleared. The remaining dues will be cleared soon. The mill having a target of crushing 105 lakh quintal sugarcane has so far crushed 62 lakh quintal sugarcane.
The state government has asked the sugar mills to clear the cane dues of farmers within 14 days of crushing their sugarcane. The Akbarpur mill has claimed of following government order and clear the cane dues of farmers in time as per schedule.
However, there were complaints of the farmers that they were not getting the receipts on time from the mill. Arvind Singh, chief manager of the mill said, “We will address the issue soon. So far we have paid cane bills worth Rs 14 crore to the 12,000 cane farmers whose case was crushed till January 31. We will clear the dues of other cane farmers soon.”
