Rohtak: The sugarcane cultivators from Rohtak district are still awaiting the pending cane arrears worth Rs 82 crore from two sugar mills in the district. The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) demanded that the Haryana Cooperative Sugar Mills from Bhali Anandpur and Meham should clear the dues immediately.
According to the news report published in The Tribune, Preet Singh, president, AIKS district unit claims, “Farmers need funds now to take up next crop and the mill should clear dues immediately. The Bhali Anandpur sugar mill is yet to make payments amounting to Rs46 crore, while the Meham mill owes about Rs36 crore to sugarcane farmers.”
The sugar sector is severely affected due to the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. It has also affected the sugar sales. Mills are unable to sell the sugar amid lockdown, due to which sugar stocks are piling up in warehouses. And also they are unable to clear cane dues to financial scarcity.
