All the cars manufactured by Maruti will be ethanol-compatible by 2023, the company has announced recently.
According to the media reports, the cars will have engines that can run using 20 per cent ethanol mixed with 80 per cent petrol. The cars having flex engines will be able to run either on ethanol or on petrol or a mix of both ethanol and petrol.
The company has assured to shift to E20 norms without much increase in the price.
The government had last year set a deadline for achieving 20 per cent ethanol blending. Recently, Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) had urged that to achieve 20 per cent ethanol blending by 2025, steps should be taken to ensure that the Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) is launched in the country soon.
