Amritsar: Farmers demand payment of pending cane dues

Amritsar: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Jamhoori Kisan Sabha staged a protest outside a Cooperative Sugar Mill at Bhala Pind on Thursday demanding pending cane dues of Rs 6.78 crore, reports Tribune India.

Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala, president of the organisation said, “The sugar mill is liable to pay 15% interest on the pending cane dues as per the Sugarcane Control Order-1966 if it fails to clear cane dues in 15 days of purchase.”

The farmers also asked government to hike rate of sugarcane to Rs 450 per quintal for the next season.
