Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh’s Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar has announced that plans are in place to distribute tur dal and sugar to ration card holders throughout the State. As part of this initiative, each of the 1,48,43,671 ration card users will receive 1 kg of tur dal for Rs 67 and 0.5 kg of sugar for Rs 17. The distribution began on Tuesday.
Minister Manohar stated that since the coalition government took office, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan have prioritised making essential items affordable. “We have already lowered the prices of rice and pulses twice,” he said.
Manohar further explained that while pulses are sold at Rs 150 per kilo in local markets and retail stores, the government offers these essential goods at much lower prices. For instance, steamed BPT/Sona Masoori rice is priced at Rs 48 per kilo, while green BPT/Sona Masoori rice is available for Rs 47 per kilo.
Reaffirming the government’s dedication to supporting the poor, he emphasized that the department is also prepared to handle any disasters that may arise.
