Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh: The worries of sugarcane and other farmers have increased as they are facing labour shortage despite the timely onset of monsoon. They are unable to get labourers for tilling the land and other agricultural works.
Farmers were facing similar problems during last year but that was due to the pandemic. The restrictions due to the pandemic continue this year and are hampering farming activities.
Farm labourers from neighbouring states enter AP during the rainy season for farming activities. But the labourers that left last year due to the pandemic have not yet returned. Some have returned but are not sufficient to complete the agri activities in the state.
The labour-intensive crops like sugarcane are most affected due to the lack of labourers.
According to the news report published in thehansindia.com, reports from across the districts suggest that the mood is downbeat among farmers due to the acute shortage of labourers. Hundreds of middlemen used to earn their livelihood by providing labourers to sugarcane and other farmers.
