Andhra Pradesh: Management not operating sugar mill due to less availability of sugarcane for crushing

Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh: Education Minister Botsa Satyanarayana said that the management of the Bheemsinghi sugar mill has refused to operate the factory as the farmers are not growing sufficient sugarcane in the region, reports Deccan Chronicle.

The sugarcane is grown on only 20,000 acres whereas the actual requirement is more, he said.

He said, “The cane grown here was being sent to the Sankili sugar mill. Sankili mill has also stated that their produce was not getting breakeven price and as a result, they started manufacturing ethanol and other products”.

The government is ready to modernize the factory but the farmers are not ready to grow sugarcane, he added.
