Andhra Sugars approves Sodium Sulphate Recovery Plant and 12 MW Solar Power Project at Saggonda

The Board of Directors (BoD) of The Andhra Sugars Ltd has approved the setting up of a couple of projects at the Saggonda location, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh.

The BoD has approved a 6 TPD Sodium Sulphate Recovery Plant with an approximate capital outlay of Rs. 12 crores and a 12 MW Solar Power Project with an approximate capital outlay of Rs. 42 crores for the captive power requirements of the existing Caustic Soda Plant.

In December 2024, Andhra Sugars Limited announced that the company would not operate its sugar plant in Taduvai for the 2025-26 crushing season due to the non-availability of sufficient sugarcane. As a result, the company has informed farmers in the sugar factory zones not to undertake sugarcane plantation. The company emphasized that the viability of operations is no longer feasible due to the current cane supply challenges.

Andhra Sugars is a manufacturer of sugar, industrial alcohol, chlor-alkali products, aspirin, sulfuric acid, and liquid & solid propellants. It also generates power for captive use.
