Tiruchirapalli, TamilNadu: Arignar Anna Sugar Mills, owned by the Tamil Nadu Sugar Corporation, located in Kurungulam, Thanjavur district, has disbursed a sum of Rs 4.74 crore to farmers who supplied sugarcane to the mill until December 15, reported The Hindu.
The disclosure was made by the Commissioner (Sugars), S. Vijayakumar, during the general body meeting of the mill convened at the Thanjavur District Collectorate on Thursday.
Providing details, Vijayakumar informed that the cane crushing for the 2023-24 season commenced at the Kurungulam mill on December 4. By December 27, a total of 42,605.831 tonnes of sugarcane had been crushed, resulting in the production of 24,920 quintals of sugar.
Vijayakumar mentioned that the mill had borne a transport cost of ₹7.23 crore during the previous crushing season. Expressing optimism, he anticipated that the mill would receive approximately 1,83,000 tonnes of cane during the current season from the 5,704 acres of agricultural land registered for cane supply to the Kurungulam mill.
