Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: Despite the issue of pending cane dues, the area under cane cultivation continues to increase in the district, reports Amar Ujala.
The area under cane cultivation has been increased by 2,554 hectares in the district. Thanabhavan sugar mill closed operations on April 27 this season, while the Unn mill shuts operations on May 7 and Shamli mill ended it on May 17. The sugarcane department with the help of these sugar mills conducted a survey of the cane grown in the district and noticed that the area under cane cultivation has been increased by 3.31% (by 2,554 hectares).
District Cane Officer Vijay Bahadur Singh said that this season farmers have increased cane cultivation as the chances of crop loss are higher in cultivating other crops. The assured income to the cane farmers is attracting them to the cane cultivation, he said.
