Auto companies to begin manufacturing flex-fuel vehicles within six months, says Nitin Gadkari

Vehicles powered with flex-fuel engines will be manufactured by the automakers in India within six months, said the union minister for road transport and highway, Nitin Gadkari.

While addressing ‘ET Global Business Summit’ virtually, he said, “The government is planning to shift public transportation to 100% clean energy sources and is working on it.”

“The meeting with SIAM representatives and managing directors of all major auto companies was held recently and they promised me that they will start manufacturing flex-fuel engines for vehicles that can run on more than one fuel,” he said.

Flex-fuel engines can use both petrol and ethanol to run the vehicle. Ethanol is produced from sugarcane juice, corn, and rice and is considered a greener and cleaner fuel as compared to petrol and diesel. The government is already working on ethanol blending with petrol as alternative fuel which is much cleaner and emits fewer pollutants into the environment as against vehicles running on petrol.
