Seoul: Poor weather has affected the rice output in South Korea this year as compared to last year, as per the statistical data.
As per the statistics, the rice output was down by 3% to 3,764,000 tons in 2022, compared to the preceding year.
Last year rice output increased by 10.7%. It was sliding continuously in the previous five years from 2016 to 2020.
The shortage of sunny days and precipitation as well as a negative effect of Typhoon Hinnamnor led to the lower yield.
Across the country, the size of rice paddies shrank 0.7% over the year to 727,054 hectares this year resulting in lower output. In 2022, rice production declined by 2.3% per 10 acres to 518 kg.
