New Delhi: The government’s recent directive prohibiting use of sugarcane juice for ethanol production is unlikely to hinder the nation’s ambitious 20% ethanol blending target, affirmed the Ministry of Petroleum on Friday, reported The New Indian Express.
Emphasizing its steadfast commitment to the ethanol blending program, the ministry outlined its objectives of achieving a 15% blending target in 2023, with a subsequent increase to 20% by the year 2025-26. This announcement followed Thursday’s advisory to sugar mills, urging them to refrain from using sugarcane juice for ethanol production in the current year.
Pankaj Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) during an interaction with a news channel said the government was committed to the ethanol blending programme and plans to achieve 15% blending in petrol in 2023-24. He also added that 20% ethanol blending would be achieved by FY25-26.
