Police arrested three people in Bangladesh’s Sylhet city on Saturday night with 340 sacks of smuggled sugar worth over Tk20 lakh.
The suspects were identified as Md Russell Mia (33), Md Jubel Ahmad (25), and Maron Befari (23), according to a press release issued by Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).
The arrests were made during a special operation conducted by the SMP. Officers set up a checkpoint in front of a restaurant in Bandarbazar, where they intercepted a truck and detained the three men, the release stated.
Police later seized 340 sacks of sugar from the truck.
A case has been filed against the suspects at Kotwali Model Police Station, and they have been sent to jail following a court appearance, the statement added.
