Bharatiya Kisan Union (Bhanu) demands timely payment of sugarcane dues

Shamli: The members of the Bhanu faction of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Bhanu (BKU Bhanu) have submitted a memorandum to the Additional District Magistrate (Judicial) demanding the outstanding sugarcane payments from the district’s sugar mills, including interest. They warned that if the payments are not made on time, they will stage a protest, reports Live Hindustan.

On Tuesday, the officials of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Bhanu, led by Kunwar Shakti Singh, handed over the memorandum to ADM Judicial Parmanand Jha. In the memorandum, they stated that the failure of the three sugar mills in Shamli district to clear outstanding sugarcane payments is worsening the condition of the farmers. Farmers are unable to pay for their children’s school fees, marriage expenses, and festival costs, and are being buried under debt. In such circumstances, farmers are facing starvation.

They demanded that the pending sugarcane payments be made before the new 2023-24 session begins. They warned that if the payments are not made, BKU Bhanu will hold a protest.
