Purina, Bihar: Sugarcane farmers from the region have demanded the revival of the Banmankhi sugar mill that was closed around three decades ago. The farmers under the leadership of social activist Prabhat Yadav have launched an agitation to press for their demand.
He said, “The mill commissioned operations in 1967 but within few years had to shut it due to government apathy. This has affected the agrarian economy of the region and thousands of workers became jobless due to the closure of the mill. The sugarcane farmers are still awaiting the revival of the sugar mill.”
“The closure of the mill has severely affected the market in the region and the issue surfaces during every election but nothing happens after the polls,” he further concluded.
