Chanpatiya/Kumarbagh: From the last three decades, the sugar mill in Chanpatia is still closed even after various promises to reopen it, reported Live Hindustan.
In the parliamentary constituency of West Champaran, Chanpatia has been known for small and large industries. The farmers and people here are becoming vocal about the sugar mill. The promises made to open the sugar mill during the past elections are included in the discussions here. It should be noted that during the British rule in 1932, a sugar mill was established in Chanpatia. At that time, sugar production began under the British India Corporation. After the mill started operating, the prosperity of the region began to increase day by day. Assessing the potential of the business, people from far and wide started settling in Chanpatia. In this period, dozens of small and cottage industries were also established here. Gradually, Chanpatia became the industrial hub of the district. In 1994, when the sugar mill was closed, the region’s economy suffered a setback.
If the closed sugar mill in Chanpatia reopens, it will benefit the farmers of the region. This mill strengthens the economic condition of farmers from hundreds of villages. Sugarcane has to be sent to Narkatiaganj, Ramnagar, Bagaha, and Lauria’s sugar mills.
