Bihar: GPS-based sugarcane survey will continue till June 30

Patna: The survey work for the cane area survey for the 2024-25 crushing season has commenced in the sugar mills. The survey will continue from April 20 to June 30. A cane survey policy has been issued by Commissioner Anil Kumar Jha for this purpose. The survey utilizes GPS systems, and a team equipped with GPS-enabled handheld terminals (HHT) will be deployed to the fields, reported Live Hindustan.

To ensure transparency and to save farmers from exploitation, the decision has been taken by the sugarcane industry department. Teams have been formed for each sugar mill. The distribution of tokens will be arranged based on the survey results. During the survey, details such as the variety of sugarcane, planting methods (trench or intercropping), and irrigation practices will be documented.

After the survey, the area and production of cane in the 13 sugar mills of the state will be assessed. According to the instructions issued by the department, special emphasis is being placed on the survey this time. Officials from the department will also inspect the fields during the survey. They will review the progress every Saturday.

During the survey period, farmers who do not submit the declaration forms previously provided will not have their cane included in the upcoming crushing season. Farmers will be informed about the survey through SMS. Information regarding the area of cane will also be provided to them.
