Before the Lok Sabha polls, the issue of sugar mills in Bihar was prominent, with various political parties attempting to gain votes through it. Now, two months after the election results, political strategist-turned-activist Prashant Kishor has raised the issue again.
On Sunday, Kishor accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his former mentor, of failing to deliver substantial benefits for the state, despite the BJP’s reliance on him to maintain power at the Centre.
He said, “People are talking about special status for Bihar. I ask why Nitish Kumar could not press for the restoration of 20 sugar mills that have been moribund for years? He has been in power for nearly 20 years which shall be remembered for wasted opportunities.”
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav had also previously highlighted the issue of sugar mills in Bihar by launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Earlier, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had claimed that the Modi government was working to restart 14 sugar mills that had been closed in the past.
