In Bihar, a large number of factories are being set up, creating numerous employment opportunities across the state. By 2026, nine new ethanol plants are expected to be established, which will help boost ethanol production in the state. These new plants are expected to generate employment for 50,000 people. Farmers involved in sugarcane and maize cultivation will directly benefit from these developments.
The establishment of these new plants will reduce the dependency of sugarcane growers on sugar mills. The new ethanol plants will be spread across eight districts in Bihar, including Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Kaimur, Muzaffarpur, Barh, Jamui, Vaishali, and Buxar. It is expected that ethanol production will begin in Bhagalpur and Kaimur in 2025.
With the establishment of new ethanol plants, the area under sugarcane and maize cultivation in Bihar is expected to grow. Sugarcane is predominantly grown in the regions of West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Sitamarhi, Siwan, and Samastipur. Maize is mainly cultivated in the districts of Katihar, Purnia, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Madhepura, Khagaria, Samastipur, Araria, and Darbhanga.
Bihar’s Industry Minister, Nitish Mishra, expressed confidence that the establishment of new plants would lead to increased ethanol production, meeting the state’s demand.
Bihar is positioning itself as a key player in the ethanol industry, with plans to significantly boost its production capacity.
Recently, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary emphasized the importance of establishing more ethanol plants in the state. He said, “There is a need to set up more ethanol plants in Bihar… This is essential for the farmers growing maize, rice, and other cereals, as we will be able to sell them directly to the ethanol plants, and it will also ensure availability of funds.”
In a recent podcast interview with PTI, Choudhary outlined the state government’s efforts to improve Bihar’s image and attract investments. He emphasized the focus on creating employment opportunities and driving higher economic growth in the state.
