Gopalganj: The Secretary of the Sugarcane Industry Department conducted a review of the facilities being provided to sugarcane farmers during his visit to Sidhwalia and Vishnu Sugar Mills on Thursday. He also inspected the closed Sasamusa Sugar Mill, reports Live Hindustan.
Secretary B. Karthikeyan Dhanji assessed the support offered by sugar mills to farmers and urged them to take advantage of various government schemes. He also reviewed the disbursement of funds allocated for the increased sugarcane price announced during the Chief Minister’s Pragati Yatra. Additionally, agricultural equipment was distributed to farmers on the occasion.
Commissioner of Sugarcane, Jai Prakash Narayan Singh, stated that discussions were held on the challenges faced by farmers, including crop protection measures. He assured that the department is actively addressing farmers’ concerns. Several schemes are being implemented, including the Chief Minister’s Sugarcane Development Program, the Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme, the Breeder Seed Production Scheme, the Foundation Seed Production Program, the Certified Seed Production Incentive Program, pest and disease prevention measures, organic fertilizer initiatives, and the development of high-quality nursery varieties.
Following the inspection of the Sasamusa Sugar Mill, Secretary B. Karthikeyan Dhanji mentioned that the matter is currently under judicial review and that further action will be taken based on the court’s decision.
Sugarcane Commissioner, District Sugarcane Officer Rahul Kumar, Vishnu Sugar Mills General Manager PRS Panicker, DPRO Pooja Kumari, and hundreds of farmers attended the event.
