Bihar’s new sugarcane minister Prof. Chandrashekhar, has pledged to focus on increasing sugarcane production.
In his first remarks after taking office, Prof. Chandrashekhar said that he would first assess whether the existing sugarcane mills can meet the demand for sugarcane. He also said that a structured approach to sugarcane production would help to ensure a steady supply to the mills.
Prof. Chandrashekhar also assured to expedite the payment of outstanding sugarcane dues to farmers.
On the issue of closed sugarcane mills, he said that the government would work to find ways to revive them.
“I am committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure that sugarcane farmers get a fair price for their produce and that the sugarcane industry is profitable,” he said.
