Riga, Bihar: The Riga Sugar Mill in Sitamarhi is set to resume operations, as the search for a new promoter to initiate the mill’s operations is underway. In a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, an approved sum exceeding INR 51.30 crores was allocated to settle the outstanding dues of sugarcane farmers in the region, aimed at facilitating the revival of the Riga Mill, reported Dainik Jagran.
Farmers have expressed joy following the government’s approval to disburse the payment of arrears to sugarcane farmers associated with the Riga Sugar Mill in Bihar. The campaign coordinator for the Restart Riga Sugar Mill campaign, Ranjeet Mishra, conveyed that during last week’s public interaction with the Chief Minister, a plea was made to settle the pending payments from the Bihar government treasury to facilitate the restart of the Riga Sugar Mill.
The Chief Minister had promptly directed the sugarcane department to expedite the process, leading to a crucial decision in today’s cabinet meeting. The announcement has raised hopes among farmers in the Sitamarhi-Shivhar region for the reopening of the Riga Sugar Mill. Ranjeet Mishra extended gratitude to the Chief Minister on behalf of the workers and farmers for this development.
