Growth Energy, the leading U.S. biofuel trade organization, has expressed approval of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announcement that it will reconsider its Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards for future light and medium-duty vehicles, commonly referred to as the tailpipe emissions rule, reports Ethanol Producer Magazine.
Emily Skor, CEO of Growth Energy, stated, “We’re pleased to see the EPA re-evaluate this rule, which unfairly favored one specific vehicle technology rather than promoting the use of domestically produced renewable fuels.” She added, “We anticipate collaborating with the EPA as they revise these standards to better achieve the agency’s environmental and economic objectives by fully utilizing American biofuels.”
Growth Energy had previously submitted formal comments and a legal brief opposing the original tailpipe emissions rule. In their brief, the organization emphasized the immediate benefits of biofuels, highlighting their role in enhancing energy security and supporting American jobs. They argued that the initial version of the rule represented a “missed opportunity.”
