Biogas boost: CBG plants planned at 11 sugar mills in Haryana

Chandigarh: The Haryana government has decided to set up CBG (Compressed Bio-Gas) plants in 11  sugar mills across the state. These plants will convert residue generated by sugar mills into biogas.

The Haryana State Federation of Cooperative Sugar Mills Ltd (Haryana Sugarfed) has invited Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for establishing these plants. Captain Shakti Singh, Managing Director of Haryana Sugarfed, said that compressed biogas is being viewed as a promising alternative to petrol and diesel. The initiative will also help in the effective disposal of sugar mill waste, reported Amar Ujala.

In addition to providing clean fuel, the plants will produce organic fertilizers for farmers. Each sugar mill is expected to earn Rs. 7–8 crore annually through this initiative. Currently, no cooperative sugar mill in Haryana has such a plant in place.

The government is also offering incentives to companies willing to set up these CBG plants, and the response so far has been positive. The sugar mills selected for the installation of these plants are located in Panipat, Shahabad, Karnal, Rohtak, Sonipat, Jind, Palwal, Meham, Kaithal, Gohana, and Assandh.

Companies interested in installing these plants have been asked to submit their applications to the respective sugar mills by May 10.
