Biogas sector expected to attract investment of around Rs 1,600 crore at REI 2024

New Delhi: The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) expects that the Biogas sector will attract investments worth around ₹1,600 crores during the forthcoming Renewable Energy India Expo (REI) 2024, which begins on Thursday. The IBA believes this is the prime opportunity for the industry.

Speaking to the PTI, IBA chairman Gaurav Kedia said that the REI 2024 is likely to attract investment commitments of Rs 1,600 crore in the biogas sector. Kedia noted that participation in the expo was expected to increase by 20% from what they saw last year, which spoke volumes about the immense growth potential that biogas enjoyed in India.

Biogas currently makes less than 1 per cent of India’s energy mix, but Kedia said the industry is in a position to play a crucial role in the country’s energy future by 2030. He added that the expo will help drive momentum for the biogas industry, which has a bright future,” he said.

The event is scheduled to be organized at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, for three days. It will be one of the best platforms for upcoming innovations in renewable energy in India and will involve developments, including bio-energy, solar power, wind energy, electric vehicles, and also energy storage. The event will look forward to enabling India to achieve its net-zero emissions target.

The Expo hosts the Bio-Energy Pavilion 2024, supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the National Institute of Bio-Energy, and the World Bioenergy Association.

IBA President AR Shukla, looking back on the success of last year’s Bioenergy Pavilion, expressed optimism for this year’s event. He said, “We expect significant interest from investors during this year’s event,” and noted that more than 50,000 attendees are expected, driven by the growing focus on the bio-energy sector and continued government support.
