The BJP’s parliamentary board had appointed Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani as observers for the Maharashtra Legislative Party meeting on Monday.
At Wednesday’s meeting, Fadnavis’ candidacy was proposed by former state minister Sudhir Mungantiwar and received unanimous backing from the newly-elected BJP MLAs. Prior to the meeting, many BJP legislators had already expressed their preference for Fadnavis as their “first choice” for the role.
