Muzaffarnagar: Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait has given a deadline of August 17 to the sugar mills to clear the pending cane. BKU warned that if the mills fail to clear the arrears with interest, then farmers will protest at the police station with cattle.
He issued the warning in a meeting organized by a district cane officer at his office which was attended by the representatives of sugar mills.
According to the state government, the administration is monitoring the cane payment and numbers of sugar mills have cleared pending arrears fearing government’s action. The mills claim that due to coronavirus and low sugar sales, they are facing a financial crisis and are unable to clear the cane dues.
