BKU (Asli) gives ultimatum to department over sugarcane variety

Amroha, Uttar Pradesh: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Asli) has launched a protest against the Department’s stance on sugarcane variety 05009. At a panchayat held on Monday at the block premises, the organization gave the Sugarcane Department an ultimatum to clarify the status of sugarcane variety 05009 by September 16. If the demand is not met, the organization will lock down the Sugarcane Council office on September 17, reports Amar Ujala.

As per media report, Vachan Singh, the district president of BKU (Asli), said that there is about a month and a half left before the sugarcane crushing season starts, but the Sugarcane Department has not yet clarified the status of sugarcane varieties 05009 and 05011. Farmers were told that sugarcane variety 05009 is an early variety, but now the department is denying this and calling it sugarcane variety 05011. This uncertainty has caused resentment among farmers.

Farmers have warned that if their demand is not met by September 16, they will be forced to lock down the Sugarcane Council office. In addition, farmers demanded that the administration and forest department take effective steps to rid them of the terror of leopards. They warned that if any unfortunate incident occurs, the administration and forest department will be responsible.

The panchayat was attended by mandal president Dungar Singh, Jaspal Singh, Dinesh Pradhan, Khachedu Singh, Kapil Pradhan, Shabban Khan, Javed Malik, Kaluwa Khan, and others.
