Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: Bhartiya Kisan Union has demanded that the sugar mills should clear the cane arrears along with the interest on it as early as possible as the farmers are facing financial distress.
The demand was made in a recent meeting conducted by the organization at Kaka Nagar which discussed several issues related to the sugarcane farmers.
Pradip Pawar, BKU spokesperson said, “The sugarcane crushing has finished and all the sugar mills have now stopped operations. The sugarcane farmers are waiting for the mills to clear their cane bills. They have no money to continue with the agricultural activities and take up the next crop. Therefore, steps should be taken to clear the cane dues.”
According to the government, under the efficient leadership of Chief Minister of the State Yogi Adityanath, and under the guidance of Minister of Sugar Industry and Cane Development, Suresh Rana, keeping the payment of sugarcane farmers on priority, so far Cane farmers have been paid a record cane price of more than Rs.1,00,000 crore, during 2017-2020 period.
