BKU criticises sugar mill for starting crushing season without paying cane dues

Pilibhit: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) members have criticised sugar mill’s crushing operations commencement in Pilibhit despite not paying pending cane dues of the last crushing season, reports The Times of India.

They have have decided to raise the issue at its ‘mahapanchayat’ in Lucknow on November 26, under BKU leader Rakesh Tikait.

“The government is neither following the HC order nor the provisions mentioned in the Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane (Regulation and Supply and Purchase) Act, 1953 that states that the mills should pay farmers their dues within 14 days of the procurement of sugar,” said Satvinder Singh Kahlon, president of BKU’s Bareilly division.
