BKU threatens to agitate for pending cane dues

Hapur, Uttar Pradesh: Members of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Tikait have demanded payment of pending cane dues of the cane farmers. They have presented a memorandum to the District Magistrate in this regard and have warned of protests if farmers do not receive relief from the crisis caused by the change in ownership of the sugar mill, reports Amar Ujala.

BKU District President Dinesh Khera stated that the change in ownership of the Simbhaoli sugar mill, following a court order, has exacerbated the farmers’ problems. He noted that the mill owes farmers around ₹260 crore, and they are prepared to engage in extensive protests to secure these payments. He also mentioned that no one would be allowed to enter the sugar mill until the farmers were paid.
