BPCL plans to set up Rs 1,000 crore ethanol plant in Telangana

Hyderabad: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has shown interest in investing Rs 1,000 crore to set up an ethanol plant having a capacity of 5 lakh litres per day in Telangana.

A high-powered team of the public sector company called on Telangana’s Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Jayesh Ranjan, on Tuesday to express interest in setting up the plant.

BPCL told the state that it requires 100 acres of land located near a water source. Anurag Saraogi, executive director (biofuels), BPCL said that the company needs about 4,000 kilo-litres of water per day for daily operations and the ethanol production plant will be based on first-generation (1G) food grains.

BPCL is planning to set up the 500 KLD capacity grain-based 1G Ethanol plant in Telangana to achieve the target of 20 per cent blending of ethanol with petrol set by the Union Government.

Jayesh Ranjan assured BPCL that the state government will provide all the necessary assistance required to set up the plant.
