BP Bunge Bioenergia, the Brazilian biofuels venture controlled by BP, is planning to invest 530 million reais ($94.49 million) to expand sugarcane crushing capacity at its Pedro Afonso plant in Tocantins state.
The Pedro Afonso mill, one of 11 operated by BP across five Brazilian states, will increase its sugarcane crushing capacity by 800,000 metric tonnes to 3.4 million tonnes per crop.
According to the news report by Reuters, construction of the Tocantins expansion will begin in October and is due to be concluded by July 2026. Upon completion, BP will have a total Brazilian sugarcane processing capacity of 33.2 million tons per harvest, firmly establishing the company as one of the top three producers in the country.
